Activities
Waterfront
Camp Dogwood is located on Lake Norman
and this provides many activities for our campers.
The Waterfront is our largest
activity area and enjoyed most by the campers.
Our Waterfront is open weekdays from
9:30 until 11:00 AM and from 2:00 until 5:00 PM. The
morning activities include fishing,
pontoon boat rides, and tubing and skiing. In the
afternoon,
speed and pontoon boat rides, fishing, paddleboat
rides, and lifeguard-supervised swimming are available.
Crafts
Crafts are a popular activity with the
campers. Crafts take place weekdays from 9:30 until 11:00 AM.
Each morning is divided into two forty-five minute sessions
with about sixteen campers per session. Friday’s
sessions are for finishing projects started earlier in the
week and distributing finished crafts.
Nature Center and Nature Trail
Our Nature Center is located near the Picnic
Shelter.

The Nature
Center features
donated taxidermy animals including deer, raccoons, squirrels,
bobcat, pheasant, fish, and ducks. Our Nature Trail
begins behind the duplexes and ends near the picnic shelter.
VIP Sensory Garden
The VIP Sensory Garden is a favorite
of our campers. Many campers utilize
the garden whether sitting by the fountain, or sitting on one
of the nineteen benches, or strolling
on the sidewalks through the garden.
Touchable Art Gallery
Sunday through Friday the touchable
art gallery is open.
Visitors enjoy being able to touch
and feel all the artwork. The artwork included in the
gallery is made by visually impaired
persons and artists across the state. Many campers
go through the gallery unassisted,
but assistance is always available
if needed.
Library
Books on cassette, large print books,
Braille books and magazines, several Braille writers, a
Braille typewriter, 2 CCTV’s, a computer with a screen reader
and internet access, games…all these and
more may be found in our library. Our library is
open everyday. Our Library is one of
the most utilized resources on our campus, and often serves as
a social hub.
Off Campus Trips:
Playing Putt-Putt

to play Putt-Putt at Cross Country Campgrounds in Denver.
Counselors and/or volunteers are
assigned to assist those who need help at Putt-Putt.
Shopping At Wal-Mart
Campers love to shop at Wal-Mart. We assign counselors and/or volunteers, as needed, to assist the campers shop or just look around to see what is new.
Bowling
Bowling at Pin Station in Newton is a
popular trip with the campers. Counselors and/or
volunteers are assigned to assist those who needed help.
The Camp has bowling rails for the campers to use, which makes
bowling easier for them.
Horseback Riding
Horseback riding is offered as an
off-campus trip.
Shining Hope Farms
in Mt. Holly is an accredited therapeutic riding center with
certified instructors. Shining Hope Farms is a
non-profit organization. Counselors take and assist the
campers. Shining Hope Farms also has bunny rabbits and
guinea pigs that the campers can pet
and/or groom while they wait for their turn to ride the horses.
